Cheryl Cawood’s new CD invites listeners on a journey to a bygone era, back to her homeplace. She tells the true tale of a mountain feud involving her great great grandfather on land that was indigenous to the Cherokee. The Cawood settlement of the 1700’s was later inhabited by the hundreds of migrant coal workers in the camps that sprang up in Harlan County, Kentucky when the big fossil fuel industry boomed. Cawood’s roots are as deep as a cast iron skillet is strong. Imagine Mama frying up a Sunday chicken supper while Pappy scratched out banjo tunes on the front porch. This rich and rustic history can be visualized, heard, and felt on her upcoming release "Bullet in the Cabin Wall".

Cheryl has several projects that each revolve around unique themes.

"Love, ~Pearl" is a Country/Americana peek into her Ky life, growing up in a river town, and stories of lost love.

"Hope Loves Harmony" is a project that focuses on hope and healing. It is a collection of music that supports parents and caregivers of those with substance abuse disorder.

The Songwriter Style: Kentucky jams melded with Jangly Folk Rock

The Sound: Cheryl’s delivery varies between simple and twangy to downright powerful. Imagine a sultry blend of Stevie Nicks & Bonnie Raitt’s vocal styles topped off with a touch of Lucinda Williams & Iris Dement!

The Personal Story: She lived a cover band musicians lifestyle while balancing a job and family. She is a survivor. She has endured several divorces and love relationships. She could blame poor decisions on a strained relationship with her mother. Mother was born in Eastern Kentucky in a cabin with a dirt floor. She had a troubled past though she was not a bad person, she was only human. Thank God Cheryl was wrapped in unconditional love from her father. Then The Opioid Epidemic wreaked total havoc!  The turn of the century sucked the life blood out of any semblance of normalcy for Cheryl. She is certainly no stranger to turning to music when life gets mean and knocks you off your feet.  “When the heart aches… pour it out into the universe via your very own vehicle.  Write a song dammit!”. The good news is everyone is mending and not one lost their life. She developed a passion to give back to the community that saved her daughters life. And hence, Hope Loves Harmony was born. She writes songs with parents of addicted loved ones to help with healing. She advocates for social change surrounding issues of mental illness, poverty and how these relate to drug abuse/addiction.
